except that any choice of packages is removed, as it just installs
everything.

Changes:
Installation now runs the vidconfig script on first boot to build a better
xorg.conf, with probed monitor ranges and the correct video card driver.
Sound init (in /sbin/initinit) is deleted if a card is not found (so it
will not continue to try after each boot). The font used by the Fluxbox
Meta style (the default) has been fixed. The icewm-session apps icehint,
icewmbg, and icesh are prevented from running on each start; they were
unused. This speeds things up a bit. Anagramarama has a tweaked
dictionary.

entry in fstab was fixed. clearFstab, a script used to wipe fstab entries
of mountable devices due to switching between auto and non-auto mounting
was fixed. Ndiswrapper was updated due to a compilation error. A Getting
Started document shortcut is now included on the user desktop as well as
the root desktop. A 1st_RUN_INFO.html file with some appropriate facts was

Changes:
Pardon the rapid-fire release -- but kernel source was misconfigured (to
compile against) and kernel size was too large for older PCs. Also source
code for ROX was altered for nice interface additions, NTFS read-write was
implimented and K3B now works for user accounts without any extra
configuration. See complete changelog below.

except that you cannot choose which packages to install or remove, as it

Changes:
The kernel is now at version 2.6.24.3 (smp), compatible with Pentium MMX,
preemptive. A modified pcmanfm replaces ROX-Filer as the default file
manager, although ROX is still running the pinboard (background/icons) and
is available for file browsing. Devtray is gone, and its functionality was
taken over by pcmanfm for mountable volumes and ivman for playable media.
Memory consumption is down. Wicd manages wired and wireless connections.
Firefox is now at version 3.0b4. linHDD.py (the drive information and
formatting utility) was updated. Over 90 packages were updated to keep up
with Slackware-current and GCC version bump.

and many other titles all set up and ready to run. Several utilities are
included to ease configuration and management. It is compatible with all
Slackware 11 packages and can be installed just like a Slackware disk,
except that you cannot choose which packages to install or remove, as it
just installs everything.

Changes:
Kernel woes have been put to rest. The final kernel image is 2570k and can
install on a Pentium Classic with just 48MB of RAM. Any lingering
patent-encumbered software has been removed. Several UI tweaks have been
made and source code diffs included for customized KDE-LIBS and abs_fdisk
used by linHDD. An ISO is now available from SourceForge, as well as a zip
file containing ISO and HTML installation instructions.

Absolute OS 12.1 RC1
by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/~psherma1/)
Wed, Apr 9th 2008 13:47

About:
Absolute Linux is a lightweight Slackware derivative that uses an Icewm,
pcmanfm, ROX-Filer, ivman, and others to create a lightweight yet easy to
use distribution. Installation is text-based but simplified, and all
packages are installed at once. It can run on a Pentium MMX with 64MB of
RAM (PII 400 with 128MB recommended). It features ease of browsing any
connected device in pcmanfm and an auto-popup menu for inserted playable
media. "Restricted" codecs are available to those eligible via a root-user
installer. Along with CD2 there is a large range of software compiled on
and for Absolute, including OpenOffice, Mplayer, GIMP, and K3B.

Changes:
Enhanced pcmanfm replaces ROX as the default file manager. Rox is still
available, and runs desktop and icons. Wicd runs wireless (if enabled in
the services menu). Ivman deals with playable media. Kernel 2.6.24.4 is
included. Ctrl_Alt+Esc can close X if needed (since icewm and the current
Xorg don't play well together with Ctrl+Alt+backspace). Pdfedit has been
added. Hplip is working for use with an HP printer to get ink levels,
cleaning utilities, etc. Most packages (the toolchain, certainly) are up
to date with Slackware current except where there were issues with running
software.

Changes:
Fairly extensive changes in terms of bug removal and added features. Major
fixes include mounted external volumes writable by user as well as root.
The clearFstab script is tamed, GUI login no longer leads to any missing
resources problems, GIMP scripts are patched to work with the 2.4 series,
epdfview replaces xpdf as the PDF viewer, Firefox is updated and includes
all header files to compile apps against, an installer is available (as
root) for folks lucky enough to legally use "restricted" multimedia files,
Audacity 1.3.3 is included, and checkinstall version 1.5.3 works and has
been patched to behave nicely.

Changes:
Many security related and application updates. Firefox 3.0.1 is built on
Absolute using xulrunner libraries. Midori (a lighter/faster Web browser)
is on CD 2. This release introduces a utility to change the default browser
so that you can switch quite seamlessly to Midori, Netsurf, Opera, etc. (on
a per-user basis). The new xorg-server works properly with icewm. wcPython
has been moved to CD 2, and all wx-dependent utilities rewritten with the
pyGTK toolkit. The CUPs daemon runs by default to avoid printer-install
confusion.

was necessary. Firefox and its plugins were updated. Skype, tuxmath, and
eqonomize were added to the base install. The libGL.la file necessary to
compile KDE applications is now included. Patterns for GIMP and two new
