Layer-7 Packet Classifier for Linux 2006-09-24 Pattern Definitions
by Matthew Strait (http://freshmeat.net/~quadong/)
Sun, Sep 24th 2006 18:12

About:
L7-filter is a Netfilter match module which classifies packets based on
application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able to
classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of ports.
It complements existing matches that classify based on port numbers, packet
length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it allows for full
layer 7 packet shaping.

Changes:
This release adds a pattern for STUN.

HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source

This project offers packet classifiers for the Linux QoS and Netfilter
subsystems which classify packets based on application layer (OSI layer 7)
data. This means that they are able to classify packets as HTTP, FTP,
Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of what port the services are run on.
They complement existing classifiers that classify based on route, port
numbers, etc.
The Gopher and OpenFT patterns were fixed and patterns for Goboogy, Tesla,
and Hotline were added. A performance testing program was included.
